Hoist empowers painters to close jobs remotely & increase their sales.

Hoist is revolutionizing the painting industry with a unique ecosystem of three platforms that leverage both AI and our own industry knowledge: a mobile app, a homeowner data collection tool, and an internal sales tool. These products enable us to bid and close painting jobs entirely remotely—a first in the industry. We’re currently signing new customers on our way to product-market fit.

Problem

Painters spend a lot of time finding and closing leads. Painters often run their own businesses, so don't typically have the time to adopt the latest technology for their business.

Outcomes

Using our latest product we had $650k in estimates sent out in August 2024, all remotely. Estimating remotely saved our users over 300hrs in a single month. Our users are seeing a 33% increase in their sales while using Hoist.

Our product ecosystem is designed to support our users' primary goal: increasing their close rate to boost their earnings. Since our business model is tied to their success, we profit when they do by taking a portion of their sales.

Key business metrics at a glance

The dashboard provides users with an easy view of their close rate and the most recent leads we've contacted. Metrics and recent leads are prioritized because business owners identified them as the most critical insights.

Bids designed to convert

I created a modern, trustworthy interface that appeals to homeowners and delivers results for business owners. My process involved testing bids with homeowners to gather feedback on trust and usability, then refining them based on close rate data from business owners. These improvements led to a significant increase in close rates, helping business owners win more jobs.

Capturing client needs seamlessly

The mobile-optimized lead form captures a homeowner’s specific needs for their painting job. By making it easier for homeowners to complete, I increased the likelihood of form completion, allowing them to receive a job estimate more quickly.

Painters often spend valuable time driving to estimates they might not win. Additionally, finding leads can be challenging and demands constant follow-ups, distracting them from growing their business, building customer relationships, and delivering quality painting work.

I start my design process by sketching on paper which is a great method to get out as many ideas as possible. I then move onto Procreate with the directions that I feel could best solve the problem at hand.

Mid-fidelity wireframes

I use wireframes as an ongoing part of the design process - I use them to meet with product and quickly vet out ideas. Sometimes I make wires in live time on meetings to cycle through a lot of potential concepts.

Usability testing

I conduct user testing throughout the product development process. It goes in cycles at Hoist, and I've conducted it after we work on major new features. User testing is critical in order to ensure the product actually works for the users whose problems you're trying to solve. - want to add: if you don't user test and have a good UX, then your users won't even be able to use the product - won't be able to solve the problem.
